Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 16 Oct. The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) fund-raising soccer matches played in Kumasi and Accra fetched only six million cedis. Speaking to the GNA in Accra today, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo, Administrative Manager of the Association said the money was far below expectation. He said the Association spent over 13 million cedis in preparing the two sides and described the proceeds as "disasterous". As to whether the Association would be able to meet its obligation of assisting the league clubs, Mr. Fianoo said "despite the outcome we will do all we can to honour our obligations". He said even though the matches were to raise funds to assist the clubs, they were also to rejuvenate the northern/southern sector encounters now out of the soccer calendar. Mr. Fianoo expressed the hope that with time the public would appreciate the need to patronise the matches. The two-leg matches were played between Northern and Southern select sides in Kumasi on September 28 and Accra on October 12. The Southern Sector won both matches on a 5-2 aggregate for the Blue Band trophy, donated by Lever Brothers (Ghana) Limited.
