GHALCA dares NSC over secretariat

Accra, Aug. 8, GNA - The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has threatened to tackle the National Sports Council (NSC) on all fronts if their secretariat located at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium was affected by renovation work planned for the facility.

Mr Kudjo Fianoo, Administrative Manager of GHALCA revealed the position of the Association in an interview with GNA Sports. Speaking in front of other GHALCA members including Mr Kofi "Wonderful" Manu, the Administrative manager said the NSC leased the land on which their secretariat was constructed to them for 30 years, an agreement which restricted the Council from tampering with the property.

He said they would fight from on fronts including the courts "if a bulldozer touches any of the walls of this building." Mr Fianoo affirmed that they were aware that the stadium would be closed down for renovation work preparatory to the 2008 African Cup of Nations, but added that they were awaiting official notification from the NSC.

He said they were the rightful owners of the property by the lease agreement and any intruder would have to be liable for his action. "We have the indenture and all necessary documents on the agreement locked up in a bank for security reasons and will produce them when the need arises."

The Administrative Manager said they had not made any arrangement to relocate because "though we are aware that the stadium would be closed for matches we are not aware that offices will also be closed. Reacting to news that the NSC was making plans to relocate their offices to the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, he simply said, "When we reach that bridge, we shall cross it."

When contacted for his side of the story, Mr Charles Aryeh, Acting Chief Executive of the NSC said he was not aware of any lease agreement between the Council and GHALCA.

"I am not aware. If there is anything like that then I was not there when it took place," he said.
