GHALCA heads to congress on November 17

GHALCA vice chairman, Wilberforce Isaac Koomson has told footy-Ghana that the Ghana League clubs welfare body believes the time is due for a revolution in the running of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and would be presenting an already worked on document proposal to Congress.

The Ghana League Clubs Association intends to propose a new Premier League board which would have CEO’s or bankrollers of all Premier clubs of the 16-team league system from which a management team will be appointed to solely administer the league with the rules and regulations provided by the Ghana FA.

“We are proposing changes in the running of the Professional League Board which is to have a sixteen-man board represented by all the clubs. They would choose their President or Chairman then the board will advertise for and appoint a competent CEO who will form his management to seek for the achievement of the targets to be handed him,” Koomson said.

“We will have the judicial bodies – disciplinary, appeal, review, security and other relevant committees to help in running the league coming under the 16-man board. They will be directly responsible to the board. The only relationship that will exist between the board and the Ghana FA will be the GFA providing the status and regulations to govern the system. Before the beginning of every season the league board will have to synchronize their calendar with that of the national teams to be provided by the Football Association, the FA Cup competition and the GHALCA competitions,” he added.

Koomson also told footy-Ghana that GHALCA will be taking advantage of the delay created by the court case between King Faisal and the Ghana FA to hold congress and pass their decision which would be forwarded to the football governing body.

“We are using this ‘free’ period to organize an extra-ordinary congress on November 17 to take an official decision. By that time the two weeks the FA sought from the court to resolve the matter with King Faisal would have been due and if by that time, the matter is solved the league can go on as already planned if not we will continue at the court. But in the attempt to resolve it, an 18-team club league should not be an option because the clubs say they will not accept an expansion,” he noted.
