GHALCA wants to meet President Akufo Addo over looming FIFA ban

The Ghana League Clubs Association have initiated moves to hold a meeting with President Akufo Addo over the threat of a FIFA ban on Ghana football.

The world football governing body has issued an ultimatum for the government to withdraw its court case seeking to liquidate the Ghana FA or else face a ban from all football activities.

Government has been resolute in its stand to dissolve the GFA in the aftermath of the release of an undercover documentary which sought to expose corruption in Ghana football.

In the said publication authored by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, high ranking officials of the Ghana FA including its former President Kwesi Nyantakyi and over 60 referees were captured taking an alleged bribe.

But FIFA has told the Ghana government to withdraw its pursuit in court to dissolve the GFA by August 27.

FIFA in a letter addressed to the Liaison Team – a two-member body appointed to oversee the participation of national teams and clubs in international competitions – the government has uo until 10am (local time) on August 27 to withdraw its suit else an automatic ban on Ghana will be effected.

GHALCA, a welfare association of league clubs in its meeting on Tuesday resolved to take steps in meeting President Akufo Addo to convince him into getting the state to withdraw its case in order to prevent the ban.

The body is expected to write officially to the Presidency on Wednesday to request audience with the President.

A ban will mean that Ghana will no longer take part in international competitions as well as any football interactions with member associations of FIFA.
