Kumasi, Feb 5, GNA - Ghana National Academy (GHANAMY) collected 39 points to emerge winners of the boy's division of the Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools cross-country race competition held in Kumasi at the weekend.
GHANAMY achieved the feat courtesy Joseph Trezeguet who powered home strongly to finish first in the eight-kilometre race which commenced at the Opoku Ware Secondary School (OWASS) and ended at the same venue.
Trezeguet clocked a time of 26 minutes 43.9 seconds ahead of Anthony Henne of Prempeh College who placed second with a time of 26 minutes 57.9 seconds.
Prempeh College who had 60 points together with GHANAMY were given cash rewards donated by the Regional Schools and Colleges Federation as their prizes.
The competition which was organised under the auspices of the Federation had 51 second-cycle institutions in the Region competing in the boys' division whiles 53 schools competed in the girls' division.
Solomon Coffie of Tepa Secondary clocked a time of 27 minutes 12.6 seconds and to lead his school to place third to be also presented cash amount as their prize.
In the girls' division, Theresa Opoku of Nkawie Secondary/Technical School clocked a time of 21 minutes five seconds to place her school in the first position in a four kilometer race.
Charity Ofori of Obuasi Secondary/Technical School and Sarah Oteng of Saint Monica's Secondary School clocked a time of 21 minutes 43.9 seconds and 22 minutes 26.9 seconds respectively to lead their schools to the second and third positions.
Mr Bernard Annan, Ashanti Regional Physical Education Co-ordinator in a closing address congratulated the participants for their sense of discipline.
He urged them to train seriously and endeavour to do away with vices that could jeopardise their academic and sporting careers.
