Ghana’s former Chief Athletics coach, Albert Nugbeze has handpicked Weightlifting President, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah as the right person to lead Ghana to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo after the abysmal performance of its athletes at the just-ended Olympics in Rio.
Ghana had 16 of its athletes representing her at the mega sports event, but none of them was able to progress from the first round of their respective disciplines which ended Ghana’s campaign in complete shame!
In an interview with Sportscrusader.com, the former coach reiterated the need to get a competent person to be at the helm of affairs at the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), so that, preparations to the games in the years to come would be properly managed.
He said; “it is clear we didn’t prepare very well ahead of the games, which i can attribute to the autocratic style of leadership at the helm of affairs at the GOC. Having new faces at the GOC, will be a step in the right direction, with someone like Nunoo Mensah, who will do very well as the GOC Boss.
“We can’t repeat past mistakes, I earlier pleaded with Sports Minister for a pull-out from the games but my call was ignored and we see the results it brought us.”
