GOC sponsors GUSA Games

Accra, March 27, GNA - The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) with the support of the Olympic Solidarity has developed a talent identification programme for the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) to enable them train more athletes in the country's universities.

Mr Albert Tettey, Secretary-General of the GOC who announced this in Accra on Tuesday, said the GOC deems it necessary to assist GUSA to tap the sporting talents of the students because there are more youth in the universities.

He expressed the hope that the athletes would take their training seriously to be better placed to win laurels for themselves and the nation.

As part of the exercise, the GOC in collaboration with Promasidor Ghana Limited sponsored the just-ended GUSA Games. University of Ghana, Legon won the competition when they collected 13 Gold, 11 Silver and eight Bronze medals at the end of the two-day competition.

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology took the second position with 10 Gold, 10 Silver and seven Bronze while University of Cape Coast placed third with 10 Gold, six Silver and 16 Bronze medals.

University College of Education Winneba (UEW) came fourth with two Gold, Seven Silver and five Bronze and were followed by University for Development Studies (UDS) with one silver and a bronze while University of Mines and Technology, (UmaT) Tarkwa placed six with no medals.
