GOC visits OlympiAfrica project in Togo

Mr. Ben Nunoo-Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), led a high-powered delegation of GOC executives to pay a working visit to the OlympiAfrica project in Lome, Togo.

The delegation includes, Mr Paul Achoe Vice President of GOC, Nana Mankattah, Executive Member of GOC and Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams - a Businessman.

The delegation toured the large facility, which has an Astro turf and 200meters oval six lane tracks.

The five-hectare of plot of land, also has a multi purpose court for handball, volleyball, basketball and grounds for wrestling and other jumping events.

The visitation was at the instance of Mr. Alassane Diake Director of OlympiAfrica, who promised to support Ghana to build their project at Amasaman in Accra.

Mr. Paul Achoe Vice President of the GOC, said “getting this project at Amasaman done is going to be a legacy and the chiefs and people of Amasaman are going to produce some of the nation’s best athletes because the project would be operated professionally”.

The Director of the Lome facility, Philippe Thon said the entire project is estimated at $700,000, adding that they have also received a lot of support from the private sector.

He said they have been very transparent and accountable to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), hence the success of the project so far.

Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams, the Director of the Ghana facility, said the GOC was willing and ready to learn from their Togolese counterparts and improve on it.

He was hopeful the Amassaman project would materialized under his management.
