GT Onetouch Premiership

Thu, 6 Dec 2007 Source: 90 Minutes Newspaper

THE 2007/08 Onetouch Premiership recorded very interesting results last Sunday with Asante Kotoko and Liberty Professionals recording seven goals in between them whilst league debutants, Kessben FC and Wa All Stars also managed some impressive results. The second week will be interesting as usual at all the league centres with some very juicy pairings. The Aboakese lads, Ashgold play host to Accra Hearts of Oak whose followers are already calling for the head of their coach in a top of the table clash this Sunday. The match will be staged at Cape Coast as Ashgold continues to serve their three match home ban. Whilst Ashgold suffered a reverse against Tema Youth last Sunday, Accra Hearts of Oak were equally unimpressive in their goalless game with Great Olympics and so the heat is now on Coach Karim Zito and David Duncan to appease their fans by collecting the maximum points. But the Robert Mensah Stadium has always had good fortunes for the Phobians and it looks like three points in the bag for Hearts of Oak.

League debutants Kessben FC showed a lot of promise by beating seasoned campaigners, Sekondi Hasaacas at their Anane Boateng Stadium at Abramkese last Sunday and against King Faisal who were whitewashed by Liberty Professionals, no quarter will be given. The seemingly bad blood between their respective managements has an added impetus to this grueling encounter and if Faisal are not careful, the highly motivated Kessben lads will add to their woes. Sunday's all Northern derby with Wa All Stars entertaining Real Tamale United at the Wa Park will also be keenly contested as Kwesi Nyantakyi's club impressively managed to hold Arsenals at the dreaded Golden City Park. This will be the first time the Upper West Region will be enjoying Onetouch Premiership action and they will count on striker Salilu Issa to do the damage. If last season's away performance is anything to go by, then RTU will return home without a point.

The Porcupine Warriors, Kumasi Asante Kotoko have shown that their pre-season form was no fluke after overwhelming Gamba All Blacks 3-0 last Sunday. The Carl Reindorf Park will be their next stop against Talal Fattal's Zaytuna FC. Zaytuna's head coach Ibrahim Sunday must work hard to neutralize the firepower of the Oseikrom boys or else their baptism of fire in the league will continue. The Gyandu Park will witness its first match after the regressing of the pitch as the Giants of the West, Sekondi Hasaacas host Tema Youth. The Tema lads will count on tormentor-in-chief, Ekow Benson to cause havoc but playing at home, expect Hasmal to at least earn a draw. In other matches, All Blacks hope to bounce back against Liberty Professionals when both sides meet at the Swedru Park whilst Accra Great Olympics after picking up a vital point in their match against Accra Hearts of Oak, welcome Heart of Lions at the El Wak Stadium. Tema Real Sportive will be making amends after losing to Lions by taming Berekum Arsenals.
