Accra, April 22, GNA - The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) will organize a two day National Seniors Singles Open Championship as part of its annual programs.
A statement signed by Kwame Ampofi Jnr General Secretary of the GTTA said, the event, scheduled between April 25 and 26, would be held at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra. According to the statement, the event, which will start at 10:00 am each day, will be under the sponsorship of Squadron Leader Ebo Bartels, chairman of the GTTA.
It said table tennis players from the regions and the security services are qualified to participate in the two day competition. It added that the Association will bear the cost of feeding, accommodation and transportation of participants during the competition. The statement called on all Regional Sports Development Officers and Coaches of the Sports Council as well as Sports officers of all security services to co-operate with the GTTA Secretariat for a successful Open Championship.
In another development, the Association said Ghana won bronze medal at the just ended African Juniors and Cadets Championship held in Egypt. It said the medal came from the Cadets Team Event Boys Division, which included Akayade Samuel from Koforidua Sec. Tech. and Davies Isaac also from Cape Coast Jubilee School.
Akayade has been selected among four other players to represent Africa in the World Junior Championship to be hosted in Sweden in October 2008.
In all Ghana placed 5th and 6th respectively in the Juniors Girls and Boys Team Event category.
