Gabon Win Sets Up Tense End

Ghana faces a nervous final day in the first qualifying phase of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers after Gabon beat Lesotho 3-0 in Bloemfontein to join a three horse race for the one automatic slot available from Group 5.

Goals from Bruno Ecuele, Roguy Neye and Bruno Mbanagoye means the Gabonese have given their hopes of qualifying for the second round of the qualifiers a major shot in the arm.

The win takes them level on nine points with the Black Stars but they have a better goal difference than the Ghanaians.

Ghana, Gabon and Libya are all in with a chance of qualifying but the mathematics of it is very simple.

Gabon host Libya in Libreville on the final day while Ghana entertains Lesotho at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Victory for the Black Stars could be good enough to earn them one of the top second round placings or even give them top spot and automatic qualification based on how the game in Libreville ends.

Gabon's superior goal difference means they can also go through if they beat Libya but the Greens will qualify as group winners if they are able to get one point against the Azingo National.
