Former Black Stars attacker, Charles Taylor has advised national team players to ensure they get paid for the sacrifices they make for the country.
According to the former Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko poster boy, a player is only given attention when he is actively playing in Ghana but once you retire or something happens to you everybody forgets about you.
Speaking to Adom TV in an interview, the great footballer has charged every player to ensure they get paid what is due them whenever they get to play for the national team
“People sacrifice for the country but you must take what is due you. It is your country so you have to make the sacrifices but you have to also take whatever you deserve.
“If someone says they will not play if they are not paid you have to understand. When you get injured or sick and you are laying restless at home that is when you will realize you are not part of Ghana. So that is the money you will have to use to take care of yourself", Charles Taylor said.
He added, “Nobody remembers Charles Taylor now so if I didn’t receive what was due me it means I didn’t help myself.
“My advise to all the national team players is that if you are not paid don’t go and play because when you are sick no one will come and look for you".
There are a lot of stories to back what the former Ghanaian international is talking about. Once in awhile stories of neglected ex-players who are in need of help pop up with no support from the government or clubs they played for.
