Spintex Knights Basketball Club have made history as the first Ghanaian team to qualify for the Elite 16 stage of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

Their 82-69 win over Elan Coton Benin in their first game guaranteed them a second-place finish in their group despite losing their first two games.

They lost by small margins in the other two games, 69-73 to Liberia’s Mighty Barolle Basketball Club on Saturday and 81-99 to Ivory Coast's ABC Fighters.

Spintex Knights snatched the second place over Elan Coton and Mighty Barolle, with superior points although all three teams recorded a win and two losses. ABC Fighters topped the group with a 100% record.

The Greater Accra Basketball League champions are now within touching distance of competing in the main event hosted by the NBA and FIBA.

The Knights have surpassed the Braves of Customs, who represented Ghana in the 2019 BAL but were unable to get past the preliminary round.
