Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation to meet Ghana’s Sports Authority

The Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) will hold a crunch meeting with Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Joe Kpenge over the ejection of the Black Bombers from their camping base at the Theodiosia Okoh Hockey Pitch in Accra.

It began last Saturday, when the nation was thrown in shock upon learning that Ghana’s amateur boxers, who are preparing for the 2016 Rio Olympics Games qualifier in Morocco, were asked by the Sports Authority to pay GHC 50 ($14) per head or leave the nation’s edifice.

GABF President Gideon Quartey, in an exclusive interview with Bukomboxingnews.com, said his outfit will be meeting with the NSA on Wednesday (today) to discuss the issue.

“It was very sad regarding what happened last Saturday,” Quartey lamented. “It shows how the nation is managing sports in the country. We have an Olympics Games qualifier in Morocco and when we went for camping at the Hockey Pitch, we were asked to pay GHC 50 per head or leave the place. It was very pathetic but we will be meeting the Sports Authority on Wednesday on the issue.”

He added: “Currently the team is in non-residential camping preparing for the upcoming championship. We will continue with that until the matter is resolved by the Sports Authority before moving to residential camping.”
