Ghana Athletic Association chief Professor Francis Dodoo is determined to free his association off governmental control in the selection of athletes and officials for international assignments.

The GAA was completely blind-sided in the selection of Martha Bissah for the 2015 All Africa Games despite not meeting the qualification mark.

This appears to have sparked a standoff between the Sports Ministry and the Athletics Association which ought to have autonomy in the selection of such personnel for international meets.

President of the GAA Professor Francis Dodoo is now poised to secure the much-needed autonomy for his association even though they continue to rely heavily on governmental support in terms of finances.

“It shouldn’t be like that, that the state will be the one selecting officials and athletes for the national team,” he said.

“This is the kind of autonomy we are talking about.”
