Ghana Christian International High School (GCHIS) and Akosombo International School (AIS) have emerged winners of the 2018 International Schools Sports Association Games (ISSAG) basketball competition respectively.

GCHIS beat SOS Herman Gmeiner International College 18-17 in the boys final while AIS beat Tema International School (TIS) 8-4 in the girls final.

The competition which took place at the Ghana International School had several International Schools in the country compete in basketball and field hockey.

AIS topped GCHIS in the female division first semifinal to set up a crunch tie against TIS who piped host GIS in the final game at the final four stage.

The girls from Akosombo raced to a quick 8-0 lead exploiting Tema’s slow start to the game before cooling off in the second half and conceded four points in the process.

Winning this year’s competition cures AIS’s heartache of losing to GIS in last year’s final; the host placed third in the girls’ competition.

Overtime was needed to determine the winning team in the boys division as GCHIS and SOS battled in a pulsating tie that had the game’s lead change several times.

At the end of a grueling contest, the score was tied at 15 but GCHIS scored in crunch time to clinch the title; Morgan International School placed third in the division.

In the hockey event, SOS placed first with AIS and GIS coming in second and third in respective fashion for the boys’ category.

SOS confirmed its supremacy by clinching gold in the girls division with GIS and AIS rounding up places on the podium.
