Ghana FA denies threatening Stevanovic

Ghana FA (GFA) has rejected claims by Serbian coach Goran Stevanovic that he was threatened by the federation following his sacking.

The lawyers of the ex-Black Stars trainer reported the GFA to Fifa after Monday's decision to fire him, claiming that the coach's safety could not be guaranteed by the federation's bosses.

In a letter signed by Zoran Anjic, lawyer of Stevanovic, the coach claimed that vice president of the GFA Jordan Anagblah said the coach's safety could not be guanrateed in the West African country.

But Anagbla says no such comments were made during a 'cordial' meeting where the decision to sack the coach was confirmed.

"I made no such comments and I am indeed surprised by what I am hearing," Anagbla said.

"The meeting was very cordial with no aggression so I don't know why the coach will now say I threatened him.

"We thank God that the minutes of the meeting was read to Mr. Stevanovic and his lawyer and we all agreed on what transpired there with no such thing in the minutes. "So we are very surprised to hear this claim. We ended our relationship in a very friendly way and Mr Stevanovic is still our friend.

"In any case Fifa is an open body and will surely ask for the other side of the story so I see no issue here."

During the Serb's reign, the Black Stars secured a historic 1-1 draw against England at Wembley before narrowly losing another friendly to Brazil as the five-time world champions won 1-0. However, last month's 1-0 defeat to Zambia in Bata proved the coach's undoing as the GFA displayed its ruthless streak after a month of meetings.

Stevanovic will meet the GFA once again on Friday, for another meeting on a compensation package with almost a year still left on his contract.
