Protocol Officer and Deputy Secretary General in charge of competitions at the Ghana Football Association, GFA, Mr. Alex Asante could replace Isaac Addo as Secretary General of the Association, per our checks at the FA.

Isaac Addo, who was acting Secretary General of the Ghana FA and was appointed permanent Secretary-General on December 29, 2017 after the retirement of Mr. Emmanuel Gyimah in 2015, was not invited to the FA Secretariat when government handed over the office to the FIFA Normalisation Committee after declaring it a “non-crime scene” after over three months.

Mr. Alex Asante, highly respected within the football fraternity and the FA introduced staff of the FA to the four-man Normalisation team headed by the Dr. Kofi Amoah one after the other including the security guard last week Thursday.

Despite his presence during the setting up of the FIFA Normalisation Committee on September 13, 2018, Mr. Addo was absent when the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) handed the secretariat to the Normalisation Committee.

Staff who had lots of appraisal for Mr. Alex, saying he is “loved by everybody and even beyond the FA because of his work ethics and how relates with us,” suspects Mr. Alex Asante is “unofficial” head of the Secretariat though no official announcement was made at the meeting.

Media Manager of the Ayew Family, Mr. Fiifi Tackie took to social media platform, Facebook to report that Alex Asante will replace Isaac Addo as Secretary General of the FA.

The absence of Isaac Addo who is supposed to be in charge of the secretariat, and Mr. Alex Asante introducing staff to the Normalisation Committee gives credence to the report that the latter will replace the former.

What is definite is that, the Normalisation Committee will round off their work by March 31 according to FIFA but this is subject to them satisfying the mandate handed them by the scheduled period, and replacing Isaac Addo will be on the interim just as their mandate by FIFA defined.

Mr. Isaac Addo was not on the good books of many members of the Ghana FA, and his return, if indeed he is replaced, might seem impossible.

Until his appointment, he was banned by FIFA for nine months after he was found culpable by the Independent Ethics Committee of FIFA for alleged sexual harassment following a protest from two liaison officers during a workshop for the 2016 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

His appointment met the displeasure of many and it is unclear if the new leadership if elected in 2019, will repose confidence in him to head the secretariat.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kofi Amoah promised staff their jobs were secure before adding that they will need everyone on board their flight to steer the affairs of the association until elections are held in the first quarter of 2019.

Owed salaries, May June, August were not discussed and it is unclear if they will receive that of September per our checks.
