Ghana Premier League: Felix Kyei's costly howler sparks match-fixing allegations

Medeama SC’s dramatic 2–1 defeat to Hohoe United in Tarkwa on Sunday, March 8, 2026, has taken an unexpected turn off the pitch, with sections of supporters raising suspicions of possible match manipulation following a costly mistake by goalkeeper Felix Kyei.

The Ghana Premier League leaders suffered their first home defeat of the season at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium after a remarkable comeback from relegation-threatened Hohoe United.

Medeama initially looked on course to maintain their strong home record when Kelvin Obeng fired them ahead shortly after the restart.

In a surprising decision, goalkeeper Felix Kyei stepped up to take the kick but failed to convert, missing a crucial opportunity for the hosts.

Shortly afterward, the incident that has since captured fans’ attention occurred. With minimal immediate threat, Kyei rushed off his line to clear a loose ball but completely missed it.

The error left the goal exposed, allowing Francis Odoom to calmly roll the ball into an empty net and seal a stunning victory.

The mistake quickly triggered reactions from supporters online, with some questioning whether the incident was simply a costly misjudgment.

A number of fans openly alleged that the match may have been “fixed,” pointing to the unusual nature of the goalkeeper’s decision and the sequence of events that followed.

Despite the speculation circulating on social media, there has been no official suggestion of wrongdoing. Medeama remain top of the league table, with 46 points, one ahead of second-placed Goldstars.
