Ghana Premier League clubs are not earning income from new TV broadcasts - Nana Oduro Sarfo

A member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo has disclosed that Premier League clubs are not receiving any financial benefits from the television broadcasts of the league.

After the 2023/24 season, the GFA parted ways with StarTimes, the previous broadcaster, due to a breach of their contractual obligations.

Currently, Metro TV, NET2 TV, AFA Sports, Original TV, and Globe TV are airing the Ghana Premier League.

However, Sarfo revealed that the revenue generated from these broadcasts is insufficient to provide financial support to the clubs.

He noted that the GFA has scheduled a meeting to explore ways to boost revenue, particularly to assist clubs facing financial difficulties.

"Ghana Premier League clubs receive no financial gains from the current TV broadcasts of the league. There is an EXCO meeting scheduled for Tuesday to explore possible financial solutions for clubs," he told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.

Meanwhile, sports enthusiasts and analysts have expressed concerns over the poor quality of television coverage, which they believe diminishes the appeal of the matches to viewers.
