With the impact of coronavirus being felt by the football world, some clubs in Europe have reached an agreement with their players to slash percentages of their weekly salaries.

Bayern Munich and Dortmund are two of Europe’s powerhouses to reportedly agreed pay cut deals with their players with Barcelona rumoured to have begun negotiations with their players over similar deals.

Like the major European leagues, the Ghana Premier League is also on hold and club owners and investors are feeling the pinch of the coronavirus bite as the dark clouds continue to hover around the world.

Unlike their European counterparts who are looking to cut their losses with salary slashes, Ghanaian clubs are still committed to the contract they agreed with their players.

Some club officials who spoke on and off record to ghanaweb.com said decisions on salary cuts are yet to be made as clubs continue to monitor developments in the country and globally.

They all maintained that the suspension of the league has impacted on their finances as funds from gates have been cut.

The Administrative Manager for Dreams FC said the club will for now continue to pay their players their agreed salaries.

He added that the topic has not yet been tabled by any of the management members.

Owner of King Faisal Alhaji Grusah said it will be cruel to deduct a percentage from the already meagre salaries of players.

He said he will never make such move despite the hardships that have come with the truncation of the league.

The spokesperson of Liberty Professionals opined that no such discussion has been held at the club’s administrative level.

He remarked that players of the club have been sent home in line with the FA’s directive but their salaries have witnessed no cuts and he’s unsure there will be a decision in that line.

A Kotoko source made similar submissions, adding that currently the club is focused on settling their issues with FIFA and Tunisians side Esperance.

An official of Accra Great Olympics described is as a ‘delicate matter’ but said no such decision has been made or considered by the club.

The Chief Executive Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak, Frederick Moore suggested that the club may consider salary cuts if the virus lasts longer than anticipated.
