The Ghana Football Association vice president, George Afriyie has revealed that the current Ghana Premier League is likely to come to a close without a headline sponsor, but assured the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League would not be without a major title sponsor.

According to the Vice President, the FA is not happy that the league is without a headline sponsor after 22 round of games.

“Its very unfortunate that there is no headline sponsor for the league this season after First Capital Plus Bank (now Capital Bank) decided to stay away," Afriyie told Metro FM

"Let me add that a lot of sponsors came on board and we started negotiations but for some of them because the league has already started and gone far they were unwilling to come for this season."

"We tried convincing them to come on board for the remainder of the season, but it's just unfortunate it did not work. We have tried our best.”

“But for next season, we have agreed about 80% in principle with a headline sponsor so we are very sure next season there will be a title sponsor. "

"We will not play a sponsor-less league next season and so, for now, we shall continue with our other broadcast sponsors Supersport for the current campaign. For the remaining nine matches, I do not see any title sponsor coming on board to sponsor the league. ”
