Ghana Table Tennis players form association

Table Tennis players in Ghana have formed an association to move the sport forward and attract sponsorships, patronage and attention from the media, Sportsinghana.com can report.

According to President of the new association, Eric Ofori Addo, at the rlg Hathiramani Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium, the sport of ping pong is dying in Ghana and hence the need for stakeholders to come together because it’s about time that the sport they love most is saved from collapse.

He noted that for the whole year, no tournament has been played, making the players dull and not ready for international competition. He said apart from the Hathiramani event which is taking place today Saturday 6th October, no competition has been organised. He noted that the president of the Ghana Table Tennis association could be a factor as he is always busy and gives less or no attention to the game. According to Addo, they want to inaugurate the new association in a grand style and prayed that the National Sports Authority would support them.

"There are many talented stars in Ghana, but there is no support, so we just do what we can do and go home. We need better training and facilities. We need good bats, balls, and shoes to play the game like our international counterparts so that whenever we go out, we shall not be seen wanting,” he lamented.

Some of the executive members of the new association are Derek Abrefa, Vice President, Cynthia Kpabi, Secretary, Afia Oforiwa, Treasurer with Mr. Samuel Dei and Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jr. as patrons. At the time of going to press the Hathiramani tournament was still on.Credit:
