Ghana Weightlifting Federation undaunted by groundbreaking record

The Ghana Weightlifting Federation [GWF] has said that that their achievement at the just ended 42nd MTN-SWAG Awards Night will not force the federation to abandon its program.

The sport which has fast gain prominence in the last two years lifted home the National Team [Black Cranes] of the Year award.

But according to a statement issued by the federation on Monday, their monumental achievement at the MTN-SWAG Awards, where weightlifting alone won a total of five [5] awards is just the beginning of bigger things to come.

“We are going to soar higher in 2017 by using our achievements in 2016 as a stepping stone and continue to promote and develop the sport across the country,” a statement from GWF said.

The statement further recognized its partners their continuous believe in the federation.

“We thank our partners for keeping fate in us as we continue to give hope to the many young Ghanaians talented in the sport of Weightlifting,” it noted.

Ghana’s sole weightlifter at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil [Christian Amoah] won the Male Weightlifter of the Year whiles Richmond Osarfo was also adjudged the Discovery of the Year after exhibiting great talents on his international tournament in Penang, Malaysia.

Hardworking Ruth Baffoe won the Female Weightlifter of the Year award after winning three bronze medals at the Africa Weightlifting Championship held in Cameroon.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, who heads the federation was crowned the Association Chairman of the Year for his selfless and dedication to sports development.
