Ghana’s Rugby team (the Eagles) edge past their counterparts from Togo (Hawks) by 10 points to zero in the Rugby African Regional Challenge Group West 1 tournament, played on the Accra Sports Stadium pitch on Sunday.

The Eagles won the tournament, after topping the group with nine points, followed by Benin, with four Togo occupying the last spot with just a point.

It was a fascinating encounter against the Togolese, who looked revitalize after their 14-12 loss to Benin in the second round of match last Wednesday.

The Eagles began the game on front foot, as they secured their first try through Abdul Rhaman Salisu in the 30th minute, but subsequently failed to convert as they took a 5-0 lead.

The Togolese game back stronger into the game, but were unable to penetrate the Eagles defence at the end of the first period.

The second period started with the Hawks being put on the defence with the Eagles attempting to score the second try.

They deservedly stretched their lead in the 65th minute, when full back Boamah Prince who dazzled the Tologese defence, when he skipped pass four players and scored the second try for the Eagles.

Fly-half Daniel Hoppe failed to convert for Ghana after they took a 10-0 victory over their arch-rivals to win the tournament.

With this win, Ghana now stand a brighter chance of being promoted to a higher league in World Rugby as they await results in other zones.
