The President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, Kwabena Yeboah claims the Number 12 documentary which was aired in June last year by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas plunged Ghana football into some darkness that the nation is yet to recover from.

According to the ace commentator, though the investigative piece was aired in the second half of the year, the impact felt from it has been far-reaching.

Kwabena Yeboah in rating the performance of the country’s favourite sport in the just ended year opined the exposé did not only provide evidence to corroborate existing claims of corruption at the Ghana Football Association but also exposed the extent to which corruption had eaten into the fabric of Ghana football.

The ace sportswriter while commending Anas for the incredible work stated that he is hopeful the Normalization Committee will restore sanity and credibility into the game.

“I do not think that we can proudly say that much occurred on the football front. You and I know how football was brought on its knees and if anyone has said we were going to come to this point, I would have contested it. Football was completely on its knees”.

“There is a Normalization team trying to restore some sanity, credibility and integrity to our football. So there isn’t much to talk about. We all know the Anas expose which unearthed something that we all knew about. That is the rot in our football and it had to take Anas to bring it to the fore”.

It’s not as if we did not know, we knew but every time the question was raised, the immediate question was where is the evidence, so somebody had to bring out the evidence”, he said.

Commenting on the performance of the other sporting disciplines, Kwabena Yeboah singled out boxing which he asserts did quite well last year.

“Concerning the other disciplines, again most of the athletes struggled because of lack of support but even with the meagre resources, I believe that they did exceedingly well. Boxing in particular really excited all of us. We had Dogboe who won the world title and defended it a couple of times before losing it. The fact that he lost should not obliterate the wonderful achievement that young man had in the year under review.

“Again not so much activities but we at SWAG want to look at the glass as half full and not as half empty so even with all the difficulties, I believe these sportsmen and women toiled to make Ghana proud and it is the reason we are going to honour those who cut that distinctive edge”, he concluded.
