The former Trabzonspor forward scored twice, with his first goal coming just six minutes into the game. He added a second goal in the 23rd minute, giving Genoa a strong lead.
Mantova's Mattia Muroni pulled one back in the 38th minute, but Morten Frendrup restored Genoa's two-goal advantage just before halftime.
In the 63rd minute, Alessandro Debenedetti scored for Mantova, but Genoa held on to win 3-2.
