Lennox Lewis, the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion has described Ghana as the best country in Africa.

"I love Ghana, it is the best country in Africa and has the nicest people in the world" declared the undisputed World Heavyweight Boxing Champion.

Lennox Lewis made the remarks in response to a question posed by a media correspondent during a courtesy call on Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK at his office in London.

The visit was to enable him to formally inform the Mission of his planned trip to Ghana later this month.

Lennox Lewis who is also an honorary Ghanaian chief, expressed optimism about the development efforts of the government and thanked the High Commissioner and his staff for the warm reception accorded him.

Mr. Isaac Osei thanked him for the visit and commended the champion’s illustrious career as a boxer. He noted that Lewis' extraordinary skills and immense strength had not only taken the noble art to a new dimension but had also been a source of inspiration and hope for black people all over the world.

Mr. Isaac Osei said measures introduced by government to consolidate the enjoyment of constitutional freedoms and create a private sector-driven economy among other things formed part of a broad programme targeted at assisting the Ghanaian to develop his full potential.

The High Commissioner presented a number of publicity materials including pictorial brochure entitled “Ghana- One year into positive change” to the boxing champion and urged him to throw his weight behind the socio-economic transformation of the country during his visit.

Present at the meeting were Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu, Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to the UK, promoters of the champion and other senior officials of the High Commission
