Australia 2 Ghana 1 - first game

Ghanaian reporter:

In Sydney yesterday, most of us had to defy a bleak, bitterly cold and rainy day to watch the black stars beaten by their Australian counterparts. The match was officially classed as a friendly international but, in reality, was anything but. The black stars went into the game with every seriousness but had to conceed two goals scored from dubiously awarded freekicks by the Australian referee in the 9th and 16th minutes respectively.

Our happy moment came when the stars scored from one of their beautiful moves initiated by Eben Hagan. Ablade Kumah scored from a magic feet (with no apologies to Dr. Magic Feet.) to restore some confidence and temperament that were lost.

The Black Stars encounter raises doubt as to whether GFA has any serious business plan. The team arived in Australia with 5 officials and 15 players (3 of whom are goalkeepers). There were rumours of problems getting airline tickets. However, Mr. Ismael Kurtz emphatically denied this but said that some had visa problems and others were trying to finalise contracts. The handlers had no choice but to experiment with some players such as goalkeeper Ben Kluvi (unknown in ghana). But that doesn't matter as my man of the match is unknown as well. He is Charles Whitle. Some say he is based in Switzerland. He is realy good and can only be compared with the Shamo Quayes and Joe Debrahs (during their days). Sam Johnson was useless in centre forward.

Black Stars Line up: Ben Kluvi, Stephen Baidoo, Kassula Da Costa, Afo Dodoo, Joe Addo (Captain), Mohamed Gargo(he didn't fire any of his usual shots), Eben Hagan, Malam Yahaya, Sam Johnson, Ablade Kuma, Chales Whitle(my darling boy)

Australian reporter:

Australia has just played the first of the 3-game series of matches against Ghana at the Sydney Football Stadium. A deflected free kick from Tony Vidmar gave Australia the lead in the 5th minute and a Graham Arnold header in the 37th minute (from another free kick) gave Australia a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Late in the game, 84 minute Ghana pulled a goal back after a goalmouth scramble through Abladi Kuma. The next two games are scheduled for the 21st in Adelaide and the 24th in Perth Bloody hell it was a cold day though....Brrr!
