Ghana submit bid to host AFCON 2017

Ghana officially submitted her bid to host the 2017 Orange Africa Cup of Nations to the headquarters of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) in Egypt, Cairo on Friday.

The bid which formalizes Ghana’s interest in hosting the continent’s plum event, six years after staging the tournament arrived in Cairo by courier on Friday.

Ghana sent in a formal application through the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to become only the second country to send a bid ahead of the September 30, deadline set by the continental Information pieced together by GNA Sports indicates that the document includes various details on sectors like infrastructure, communication, transport, health and among others.

While Sudan remains Ghana’s only rivals for the hosting right thus far, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has made known their intentions to put in a bid by close of Wednesday, September 24.

Also expected to slap in a bid is Algeria, who has constantly made public their interest in staging the biannual gathering for Africa’s best 16 teams.

The North Africans initially hoped to swap with original host of the 2017 competition, Libya. The latter lost the rights to host the tournament due to political instability.
