Ghana to Have Two Teams in 2004 Champions League

Ghana will have two representatives in next season’s African Champions League and the new Confederation Cup to be launched by African football governing body CAF next year.

The champions league is being expanded to sixty four teams beginning next year. The African Cup Winners Cup will also be merged as CAF seeks to increase the commercial and marketing viability of its prime competitions.

Ghana is one of twelve countries that have been given extra places in both competitions based on the performance of Ghanaian clubs in African club competitions in the past five years. The others are Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Congo DR, Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo Republic, South Africa, Senegal and Angola.

The new arrangement means the first and second placed teams in the national premier league partake in the money spinning competition. The third placed team in the league and the winner of the FA Cup will represent the country in the Confederations Cup.
