Ghana will play Togo in an international friendly in Europe next month in a warm-up for March’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The venue for the hurriedly arranged game is not settled yet but organizers say it will be played in Europe.

This comes after plans to play Paraguay fell through at the last minute which left the Ghana Football Association (GFA) struggling for an opponent for the Fifa international friendly date.

The Black Stars were desperate to take advantage of the Fifa date to give new coach Goran Stevanovic the opportunity to see his players at first hand before March’s crucial away Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo in Brazzaville.

“It would be Togo. The match organizers are still sorting out the actual venue but it would be in Europe,” GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe said. “It would be too late to look for another team now but certainly it’s Togo.”

Ghana are currently 16th in the Fifa ranking are will maintain their position among the best 20 sides in the world if they win the game.

The Black Stars last played Togo in an international friendly on 16 August 2006 and it ended 2-0 in favour of the Black Stars.
