Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe has emphasised that the Black Stars will only win games in international competitions if players can bring at least 80% of their club-level performances to the national team.

Tagoe’s comments come on the back of Ghana’s disappointing form in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where the Black Stars have only managed to collect two points from their first three matches in Group F.

Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025 took a further blow after a frustrating goalless draw against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The team’s struggles, including a home loss to Angola and back-to-back draws against Niger and Sudan, have raised widespread concern among fans and football analysts alike.

"If the players can replicate at least 80% of the performances they exhibit at their various clubs, we will undoubtedly win games," Tagoe stated in an interview with Bryt FM. "We have good players, but the character they exhibit in approaching Black Stars games is very low, and that has been our biggest problem."

Ghana’s next test will come in the form of a return leg against Sudan, scheduled to take place in Tripoli, Libya. Otto Addo and his team are under immense pressure to secure a victory in the crucial match to keep their AFCON 2025 qualification hopes alive.
