Namibian national soccer team coach quits
Windhoek, Namibia - Ghana group opponents' - Namibia - national soccer team coach Ben Bamfuchile said he has resigned, citing unfavourable working conditions and bungled administration by the national football governing body, the Namibian Football Association (NFA).
Bamfuchile, a Zambian national who led Namibia to qualify for the African Cup of Nations after nearly a decade in obscurity, told a local newspaper, The Namibian , that he was throwing in the towel.
The soft-spoken international coach accused the NFA of making it difficult for him to carry out his duties as head coach.
The Namibian national team, popularly known as the Brave Warriors, is in the mid st of preparations for the tournament, holding in Ghana in 2008, before Bamfuchile's resignation.
At Ghana 2008, Namibia is playing in the same group as hosts Ghana, Guinea and Morocco.
Bamfuchile, who has steered the senior national team for a year now, complained that he was not given an official vehicle and therefore goes to work in taxi cab s .
"I am tired, I have had enough. I am done now, its all over. They are treating m e like a child," Bamfuchile was quoted as saying.
"I am not a kid and I am not a beggar. I don't beg for money or anything. I th ought I would be treated with respect and being a professional, I thought things
would be done in a professional way," Bamfuchile, a favourite amongst his player s and many soccer fans, said.
Initially, Bamfuchile went about his work in rented car, which was later withdra wn by the NFA for unspecified reasons.
"For a national team coach not to have transport, which is so important to carry out his duties, is really shameful," he added.
During his stint as head coach of the Namibian national team, Bamfuchile won the Namibian Sports Commission Coach of the year award.
"I love football and I was really committed in taking this team to the Nations C up. But I am very disappointed by my bosses and this has left with no option but to resign," Bamfuchile said.
