Former Ghana International Augustine Ahinful says Ghanaian clubs inability to scout and sign quality players has also resulted to the decline in the standard of the Ghana Premier League.
There has been a talk about the decline of the Ghana Premier League in contemporary times in comparison to the 90’s and the early 200's when Ghanaian clubs notably Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko dominated in the Africa club competition.
According to him, Ghanaian clubs motivated players during his era thus the teams had a lot of quality players to compete for the title.
“Hearts and Kotoko players let’s compare their players. How many of them are in the national teams right now These are the two biggest clubs in the country”, he said in an interview.
“What they are failing to do now is take big or better players in the league. If they are able to scout well and not sign just any other player , they will have a good team”
“For instance when Berekum Chelsea played in the CAF Champions League, look at the players they had after playing against TP Mazembe they signed five of their players”, he added.
