Ghanaian attacker Asumah Abubakar has completed a move to Dutch second-tier MVV Maastricht ahead of the upcoming season.
The 21-year old hitman signed a two-year deal with the club as a free agent after mutually terminating his contract with Eredivisie side Willem II last week.
Abubakar who spent majority of last season rehabilitating from a broken fibula still managed sixteen appearances for Willem II and is expected to shine with his new club now that he is fully fit.
Maastricht coach Ron Elsen said this about his the new recruit: “Abubakar is a fast attacker, who has an eye for the goal. A boy with a lot of potential. He has experience at Eredivisie level and played in representative teams for Portugal. We are glad that we were able to get him to Maastricht. Now he will have to show that he has returned completely after his annoying fibula injury.”
The Kumasi-born attacker also holds a Portuguese nationality and has already played for Portugal U-19 at the European Championship in Germany in 2016 where he scored a goal in two appearances but is still eligible to represent Ghana at senior level.
