Experienced Israeli journalist Raphael Gellar has called on the Ghanaian media to give Avram Grant time to adjust as he prepares to coach the Black Stars.
Gellar told footy-ghana.com that the former Chelsea head coach is used to pressure from the media, adding that he believes that Grant would do a very good job with Ghana, but will resign if he realizes that things are not working.
“He is used to pressure from the Media, no doubt about it. Israel is a very intense country with all the terrorist attacks we go through. We (Israelis) are very tough and resilient and if Avram sees he is not doing a good job, he will resign. I think Avram will do very well with the Black Stars but I just think the media needs to give him some time to adjust.”
Gellar described Grant as the best Israeli head coach in the last 30 years, noting that the incoming Ghana boss does not have the high personality one would expect, but is a very smart coach who might implement the 4-4-2 formation.
“He is not a huge personality; he likes to be quiet and now always be in the spotlight. He is very smart manager credited with a lot of success in Israel. Some say he has been the best manager in Israel over the past 30 years. When he was manager of the Israel National team, the team played some of the best football we Israelis had ever seen. He is smart, but likes to play very simple football. He,most likely, will play 4-4-2.”
Gellar also told footy-ghana.com that even though Grant had a torrid time at West Ham United, his time at Chelsea and Portsmouth showed that he can manage at the highest level, adding that recent success in Serbia under trying circumstances is an indicator of his abilities.
“It’s true West Ham was a failure but his time at Chelsea and Portsmouth proved he can manage. He also won a title in Serbia, where things were very intense as the club was going through a lot.”
