Ghanaian wins five medals in Karate

Accra, April 16, GNA - Jerry Agiri Williams, a 22 year old Ghanaian karatist has won five medals in three different World Karate Championship in the United States.

Agiri Williams won one gold, two bronze and two silver medals in the tournament that attracted over 200 competitors worldwide.


Among the tournaments he participated in are the Kenjutsury Karate Invitational Tournament in Californian City of Commerce, Shiai Mesa Invitational Competition, Maryland in Arizona State and the Ozawa Cup International Karate Championship.


Information reaching the GNA Sports indicates that Agiri William, who arrived late for the tournament managed to acclimatise in due time to achieve the feat.

Agiri Williams who is said to be the only black in the World Tournament added that at the end of first tournament, "One of my opponents, a top US fighter who suffered from my leg machine later gave me his silver medal in defeat."


The medallist is a former student of Accra Academy and continued his laurel collection in Las Vegas where he featured describing it as the most biggest fight he has ever participated that also attracted over 700 competitors.
