Ghatel Ladies, defending Champions of the Greater Accra Women Soccer League, would be honouring ace utility and national star Genevieve Clottey, who is set to hang her boats after the team's titanic FA final match against Post Ladies this Sunday, January 19, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Clottey who has been playing active football for the past 12 years has decided to call it quits and take back stage after Sunday's epic finals, which she hopes, will be won by Ghatel.
The veteran player was the first to captain the female national team, Black Queens and has participated in two of the three African Women Championship in Nigeria and South Africa in 1998 and 2000 respectively.
She has scored some memorable and important goals for both the Queens and Ghatel since she started playing in the early 80's.
A source told GNA Sports in Accra that the player who has served as the general captain of the club for the past five years, leaves a big vacuum, which would be very difficult to fill.
Officials of the club said it is sad that the player is leaving at such a time that her rich experience would be most needed to augment the prospects of the team.
