Give Sports a second thought in socio-economic drive Deputy Minister

Ho, (V/R) Dec. 22, GNA - The Volta Regional Deputy Regional Minister Colonel Cyril Necku, (retired) has asked sports administrators and school heads to grant sports development the due recognition to help contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

Col. Necku said this in an address at the opening ceremony of the 2009 Volta Regional Schools Sports Festival at the Ho Sports stadium which was under the theme "Sports for Unity, Peace, Health and Higher Productivity." It was organized by the Regional Sports Council in collaboration with Regional Coordinating Council.

He said that "People have different talents and capabilities and each individual must therefore be accorded avenue and opportunity to develop his God given talent" and urged the athletes to be disciplined, hard working and to focus on getting to the top.

The two day Festival which featured football, volleyball, handball, table tennis and athletics was attended by teams from Ketu South, South Dayi, Kpando and Ho Districts out of the 18 Districts in the Region. Col. Necku expressed regret about the poor patronage and said "the absentee Districts will be brought to order for failing to participate in this Festival". GNA WG/AMG 23 Dec. 09
