Give us six months to turn the association around - GFA petitions FIFA

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has asked the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to give them at least six months to embark on reforms in the association, as appropriate measures are being taken to restore confidence in the FA.

In a 24-page petition to the world governing body, it noted that all officials of the GFA, shown to have allegedly committed various acts of misconduct in the Tiger Eye PI documentary shall step aside from their positions and stay away from all football-related activities with immediate effect adding that the conduct of the said officials have been referred to the GFA Ethics Committee chaired by COP Kofi Boakye (the Director-General of the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS), to go through the Judicial Process.

According to the petition “the GFA shall not interfere in the works of the Ethics Committee and shall embrace any decision that the Ethics Committee may come out with and that the Referees Appointment Committee has also been dissolved, thus all the competitions of the GFA have temporary been put on hold.

“That a five-member team comprising of Messrs Kweku Eyiah (Leader), Benjamin Nab Eyison, Kurt Okraku (Spokesperson), Isaac Addo and Samuel Opoku Nti, has been tasked to meet Government for a resolution of the current impasse as well as draw up a program for lasting reforms, where the GFA shall soon come out with a road map for the elections of a substantive President in accordance with its statutes”.

The GFA is among other things also asking FIFA to allow the remaining leadership team of the GFA to be given the opportunity to introduce monumental changes, so as to win the public’s confidence and allow for more transparency and accountability within the organization.

The petition is also asking that FIFA does not declare a ban on GFA and processes of reforms, adding that, four days after the resignation of the then President, the government petition the court to wind down of the GFA.

It would be recalled that Government through the Attorney General sought a court injunction on all football and administrative works of the GFA, after the then GFA president Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi and some other top administrators were caught on camera engaging taking bribes.
