Accra, Aug. 13, GNA - Cellular giants, Globacom has pumped 100,000 US dollars into this year's Ghana League Clubs Association's (GHALCA) Top Four soccer tournament.

The huge financial support therefore confers the headline title on the Nigeria-based cellular outfit for the tournament, which has been officially christened "Glo Top Four Tournament."

Premier League champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kpando Heart of Lions, Liberty Professionals and Berekum Arsenal will vie for honours in the competition slated from Sunday, August 24 to Saturday, August October 11.

Bode Opeseitan, Globacom's Head of Public Relations who announced this at the official launch of the tournament in Accra said his outfit's decision to sponsor the tournament confirms their commitment to the development of the game in the country.

Globacom recently acquired the license to operate in Ghana and Bode believes "identifying ourselves with the passion of the nation will serve as a launching pad to promote our brand."

Emmanuel Adotey, Chairman of GHALCA said this year's event will serve as a major improvement over previous editions with availability of the renovated Ohene Djan and Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Accra and Kumasi respectively.

He said all the four participating Clubs will earn an appearance fee of 15,000 Ghana Cedis with the winner partying with the same amount, plus a giant trophy and medals.

Mr Adotey said the 'Top Scorer', 'Best Defender', 'Discovery', 'Best Referee', 'Most Valuable Player' and the 'Fair Club' amongst them will be awarded in the quest to inject competitiveness to the tournament.

Defending champions, Asante Kotoko and Arsenal will play their matches at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi with Liberty and Lions settling at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.

As a novelty, first and second placed clubs after the round-robin will play in a special final on Sunday, October 12 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
