Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Samudeen Ibrahim has waded into debates over the voting of Winful Cobbina as the MTN FA Cup Most Valuable Player, saying his team mate deserved the prestigious award.
The midfielder, took to his facebook page to congratulate Cobbina, who won three MVP awards in the FA cup campaign.
Wednesday's ceremony saw Cobbina holding off competition from Isaaac Amoah of Amidaus professionals and Saddick Adams of Kotoko to win the MTN FA Cup Most Valuable Player for the 2016/17 season.
The decision has prompting reactions and counter reaction from both Saddick Adams and Cobbina, with the former questioning the criteria of selection.
I'm disappointed in the whole awards ceremony," he said.
"I'm disappointed in the FA Cup awards because I dont know why I didnt win the MVP awards."
I dont know the criteria they used in selecting the best player for the FA Cup tournament."
The Kotoko top marksman scored 5 goals in 3 matches, with a hat-trick in the grand finale that eventually clinched the ultimate for porcupine warriors, and some pundits as well as himself, believe he should have won the award.
But Samudeen,22, has dismantled that assertion, saying Cobbina, who is an offensive midfielder, does not need to score goals to win the award.
"Winful Kwaku Cobbinah, the one and only life wire in Ghana football, your talent and hard working throughout last season has earned you a much deserving award," Samudeen said adding that :"Someone might think you dont deserve it, forgetting that it's not necessary to win an MVP because you'v scored a goal."
To Samudeen, the most important thing is that the award has been won by Winful and no amount of bickering can reverse the decision.
"The most important thing is that you went you saw and my guy you'v brought it home."
"God bless your talent and keep you safe for us in this season and the seasons ahead,"he added.
Cobbina in an earlier interview on Zylofon FM had responded to Saddick's statement, saying the former Atletico Madrid youth forward should not compare himself to him
"I don't normally talk about such things because we're colleagues but he shouldn't compare himself to me. I deserved the accolade and the organizers gave it to me.
"He should forget about the MTN FA Cup trophy that his club won. With the performance, I was better than him and he can't compare himself to me.
"If my performance was poor in the entire competition... I don't think I could have earned a nomination.
"It was fair...I knew I was going to clinch the Best Player of the Year award because I helped Hearts of Oak to reach the grand finale of the competition and also won three Man of the Match."
