Ghanaian forward Godsway Donyoh is one of the latest players from Manchester City’s academy that has been linked with a potential loan move to New York City FC.

New York City Coach Jason Kreis has reportedly begun negotiating a loan move for Donyoh after watching him over the summer.

Kreis is continuing to fill out his roster which could include up to four players from Manchester City’s academy.

Donyoh, a 20-year-old versatile attacker who can play up top or as a winger on either side of the pitch, has been playing on loan in the Swedish Allsvenskan with Falkenberg FF.

Despite contending with injuries, Donyoh scored four goals in 16 appearances for Falkenberg in their first season in Sweden’s highest league after 85 years of existence.

Last season, Donyoh had a loan stint with another Swedish club, Djugardens IF, where he scored twice in 20 appearances. After two years in the Swedish Allsvenskan, Donyoh has shown that he is a swift attacker with plenty of promises.

When asked about the possibility of playing for New York City FC while Kreis was watching him in the summer, Donyoh stated, “It would be a great opportunity for me. This is my second season in Sweden and [a] step into the United States would not be so difficult.”

New York City may face competition for Donyoh from Falkenberg, who may want to retain the Ghanaian on loan for another season.

Interest in Donyoh and other Manchester City prospects proves that New York City is looking to take advantage of their English counterpart’s well-regarded academy.

With New York City searching for the proper balance of experience and youth, Donyoh could be a potentially valuable addition. He could further develop his attacking abilities with quality ball service from David Villa and Frank Lampard in the upcoming season.
