Golden Rackets confident

Accra, May 7, GNA-Players of the Golden Rackets are pregnant with confidence ahead of their Euro-Africa Zone Three Davies CupTournament scheduled for Namibia next week.

The team, which is expected to leave for Namibia this evening for the weeklong competition, which would involve seven other countries beamed with optimism when the GNA Sports visited their last training session on Friday.


The moral in camp was not only high, but the four players, led by top seed Gunther Darker and his colleagues, fast improving Henry Adjei-Darko, Samuel Fumi and debutant Solomon Koomson were convinced that they had what it takes to pick one of the two promotional slots to Zone Two.


Gunther told the GNA Sports that the team was psyched up to kill themselves for the slot and make the country and themselves proud. The top seed said winning all his games was a must and he expressed his conviction about the capabilities of his colleagues.


"I can say for sure that I will win all my games and I have no doubt that my colleagues posses what it takes to carry us to the top".


The confident Gunther said the re-entry of 21-year old Adjei-Darko would make a huge impact in the team's performance whilst in Namibia. "Henry is a great player who has trodden on most of the players we will be meeting and I think his presence will not only provide us the psychological edge, but make the difference in the team".

The US-based Darko told the GNA Sports, "It feels good to be part of the team and to serve my country, especially when everyone is happy". The number two seed said he was poised to make a case for the nation and give off his best for the sake of his fans.


Darko said he was back with a hit capable of turning the fortunes of the county's current standing around and added, "Nothing will stop me from winning my games for this cause."


Whilst assuring the nation of his desire to answer future invitations, he called on the authorities to be up and doing. Koomson who will be making his maiden appearance said, "I am very happy for the honour done me and I hope to justify my invitation and help the country to reclaim the desired glory."


Outgoing Fumi, another key player in the squad summed up the team's confidence when he said, "Moral in camp is soaring by the day, and I am convinced that nothing will be beyond us, based on the sort of unity and hard-work exhibited in camp so far. "


When the four Ghanaians mount the court against the likes of Togo, Benin, Kenya, Mauritius, Ivory Coast, Turkey and the host nation, Namibia, they will be attempting to win one of the two slots available for promotion to Zone Two The last two countries will be relegated.
