The Achimota Golf Club, in collaboration with the Ghana Golf Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially launched the maiden edition of the Head of State international Invitational tournament.

The brief launch which was performed at the Achimota Golf Club on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, saw in attendance Mr Mike Aggrey the president of the Ghana Golf Association, Mr Mark Coffie Jnr who is the Captain of the Achimota Golf Club, as well as former Commissioner on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Justice Emile Short who describes himself as a proud member of the Achimota Golf Club.

Also present were officials from the Business Development Ministry and the deputy minister of Youth and Sports Pius Enam Hadzide.

Speaking at the launch, the president of the Ghana Gold Association Mr Mike Aggrey said the event will come off on Friday October 6th at the Achimota Golf Course and the President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to be present to do the Tee-off and the closing ceremony.

Mr Aggrey revealed that 90 golfers, both professional and amateur are expected to participate in the maiden tournament and part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to charity.

“This is a stroke play and a total of 90 players or golfers who have been carefully selected from across the country and the sub-region will take part. We are expecting golfers from Nigeria, Benin, Togo and South Africa to add some international feel to the tournament. Finding a date for the event was the biggest challenge because of the President’s busy schedule but he has assured as that he will be available on October 6 to do the tee-off and the closing ceremony”.

Mr Aggrey also mentioned that the President has tasked the organizers to ensure major business deals that will benefit the country are brokered there at the end of the day since there will a lot of business and decision makers at the tournament.

“We have been tasked to broker business deals to the tune of $50 million and we are confident that the setting and atmosphere that will be created on the day would ensure that many business deals are firmed up by the time the event comes to a close,” he added.

Organizers revealed there will be mouthwatering prizes at stake for outstanding golfers on the day.

Meanwhile, Captain of Achimota Golf Club, Mark Coffie Jnr says they are in touch with National security and all the other relevant security agencies to ensure that lives and property are protected.
