Reports reaching yours truly indicate that Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord has changed its name to West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) Sporting Club.
According to our source, the academy will now widened its tentacles to nurturing talents from the West Africa sub-region, and sign top talents from Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo, Mali, Gambia, and Liberia.
Fetteh Feyenoord have acquired the Red Bull Academy in Sogakope and will use their first-class facilities to refine burgeoning football stars.
The facilities include top standard pitches and rooms for educating young talents.
“We have changed the name now and it is because we want to expand our operations in West Africa where a lot of talents are abound,” the club source said.
“Event at Fetteh we had players from neighbouring countries like Burkina Faso, Togo, Mali and Cote d’Ivoire so we are just going to make it bigger.”
The Academy began its operations in Ghana in 1999 when it was set-up by Dutch side Feyenoord Rotterdam under the direction of Coach Sam Arday, the man who introduced the Multi System Soccer Brand..
Fetteh Feyenoord, now to be called WAFA have gained promotion to the Ghana Premier League after winning the Division One League Zone II promotional playoffs.
The club will be making a return to the Ghana Premier League after their demotion in 2006/07 season
