Gov't allocates GHC53m for youth and sports development

Government has allocated a whopping 53,872,871 Cedis to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the year, according to the finance minister.

The eight-figure amount will be devoted to the implementation of the activities of the agencies and institutions under the ministry, including National Youth Authority (NYA), National Sports Authority (NSA), Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) and the National Sports College, Winneba (NSC-W).


Presenting the financial policy of the government under the theme “sustaining confidence in the future of the Ghanaian economy,” to parliament on Tuesday, Seth Tekper explained that GHC53,639,101 will be borne by government with the remainder GHC233,770 through Internally Generated Funds (IGF).


The amount is to aid the various agencies and institutions fashion out government programmes for the year.

He said “the ministry will improve community and institutional sports infrastructure by further developing multi-purpose courts in selected districts and educational institutions across the country in partnership with corporate Ghana.


“Work on the construction of the Cape Coast Sports Stadium will begin while the stadium for the University of Health and Allied Sciences at Ho will be pursued,” he assured.


Tekper also mentioned the rehabilitation of existing facilities such as the Baba Yara Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium in Kumasi and Accra, yet to witness any form of renovation since 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
