The Member of Parliament for the Atwima Mponua Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Isaac Asiamah, is blaming government for not supporting current Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, to succeed at the Brazil 2014 World Cup tournament.

He said unlike Stephen Appiah who enjoyed massive support at the 2006 and 2010 global soccer showpiece held in Germany and South Africa respectively, the Al Ain striker was abandoned In Brazil.

“One may be tempted to blame Asamoah Gyan who captained the Black Stars during the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

“But that is not true. In the previous tournaments, Captain Stephen Appiah got the support of government in 2006 and 2010 but in 2014, Captain Asamoah Gyan didn’t get that support.

Government promised to pay the players what is due them prior to the tournament but what happened? We played one, two games and the money was not paid. So, why did the government renege on its promise,” he told Kasapafmonline.com in an interview.

He added “all the confusion was a result of the failure on the part of the government to honour its part of the bargain. The truth is one … it was government that created all the confusion … the indiscipline. It has never happened before. The government betrayed Asamoah Gyan.”

Mr. Asiamah who is the Ranking Member of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee told this website that it’s about time government walked the talk on support for the various sporting disciplines.
