Hohoe, July 8, GNA - Mr Victor-Hermann Condobrey, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, on Thursday disclosed that government's development agenda of providing the requisite infrastructure for sports development was unwavering. He said work for the construction of a befitting sports stadium for the Municipality to harness and nurture budding talents in the Region would be expedited. Mr Condobrey made this disclosure during the 14th Anniversary celebration of the Volta Regional Keep Fit Clubs Association at Hohoe. It was themed, "Keep Fit Awareness: Gains and Challenges." He called for conscious efforts at sponsoring Keep Fit Clubs and sports in general towards deriving the socio-economic and health benefits from exercises and games.

Madam Agnes Abefe, General-Secretary of National Sports For All Association (NASFAAG) said fitness provides good health, promotes productivity and a self-reliant society. She called on both public and private institutions to embrace the keep fit concept and make it part of their shared corporate responsibilities. Mr Emmanuel Ankora, out-going President of Keep Fit Clubs Association, said 35 registered clubs constitute the Association with dozens more yet to formalize their inclusion.

He bemoaned the decline in the teaching of physical education in the school system despite its contribution to the physical, psychological, social and health benefits to students and pupils. Mr Ankora called for sponsorship packages from stakeholders including corporate institutions, companies, NGOs and especially National Health Insurance Authority.

Mr Israel Nornyibey, Events and Promotion Representative of Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Cowbell, said his outfit was sponsoring the event with GHc6,200, comprising cash prizes and products. He said Cowbell believed in promoting healthy lifestyles through sports and nutrition and was in the third year of sponsorship partnership with the Association.

The Clubs competed in various sporting disciplines including tug of peace, marathon race, football and volleyball. An eight-member new executive body headed by Mr Victor G. K. Gedzeve was sworn into office to steer the affairs of the Association.
